Architectural Characteristics

This is mostly paraphrased from the book Fundamentals of Software Architecture by Neil Ford and Mark Richards.

Architecture characteristics define the success criteria of a system that exist besides the domain requirements of a software solution. Many organisations label these as non-functional requirements. Examples of architectural characteristics are: Auditability, Performance, Security, Scalability and Reliability to name a few.

Architecture Characteristics meet three criteria:

• Specify nondomain design consideration
• Influence some structural aspect of the design
• Critical or important to the application success
